10/18/11 - Amerihealth Update on Uniform Summary of Benefits and Coverage and Uniform Glossary. The Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Treasury, and Labor recently issued proposed regulations for the provision of health care reform that requires health insurers and group health plans to provide a Uniform Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) and Uniform Glossary to applicants and enrollees. The intent of this provision is to improve the decision-making process for health care consumers so that they can more easily understand and compare medical plans across health insurers. The SBC requirement applies to group commercial (fully-insured and self-insured) and individual plans including grandfathered plans. The current effective date is March 23, 2012.
