UnitedHealthcare/Oxford Update on New York COBRA and State Continuation Coverage Extension As of July 1, 2009, New York law was amended to increase the maximum continuation of coverage period under New York State Continuation from 18 months to 36 months for employer group policies that were renewed, modified, altered or amended or became effective on or after July 1, 2009. On Nov. 24, 2009, the New York law was updated again to include all employer groups regardless of the group's renewal or effective date. ARRA Extension On December 19, 2009, the following amendments were made: Duration of premium reduction was extended for an additional six months; totaling 15 months. Date of involuntary termination of employment was extended through February 28, 2010, so any involuntary termination of employment from September 1, 2009 - February 28, 2010 is eligible for the subsidy. The first date of continuation may occur later than February 28, 2010. If a member exhausted the nine month subsidy and began to pay the full premium, we will not issue reimbursements, but will issue credits toward the member's continuation premiums.
